Travel Guide :: San Francisco & Napa Valley

It's been awhile since I've been to lovely Northern California.  My sister recently moved there
so I thought a spur-of-the-moment trip was in order.  We, of course, spent time walking the charming city, hung out by the bay watching all sorts of different surfers, and enjoyed some amazing cafes and restaurants.

Le Marais Bakery is a charming bakery
with amazing pastries and out-of-this world macaroons!

Bar Bocce is now on my "fave list"!
I loved everything about this place…
the food is amazing, the atmosphere is topnotch, and I love that its right by the marina
where the sunsets are amazing and you can watch the boats come and go.
And yes, the name is Bocce for a reason… you can actually play a game of bocce
while enjoying the evening, or sit around the fire enjoying drinks or dessert.
I honestly can't wait to enjoy another meal there!

I stayed at the Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa in Sausalito.
It was my first time there, but its definitely not my last! This is such a good find
and I can't wait to go back there and stay again.
It is a charming boutique hotel, decorated perfectly and situated in this darling
Italian-ish-feeling-of a town.
My room overlooked the marina and had I the most beautiful view of the bay.
I loved enjoying a peaceful morning on the balcony watching the sail boats leave for
their morning adventures in the bay.  I just kept saying to my sister,
"who lives like this? and how can I be one of them?"

I swear if you go to Chestnut Street you can't go wrong with any of the restaurants,
but I suggest A 16, which has excellent Italian food and wood fire pizzas
comparable to Naples.  Another new favorite is Causwells.
Loved the atmosphere and they had the BEST arugula & pear salad.

I'm always a sucker for a charming flower shop.  When I was younger my dream was to
own my own flower shop… that little dream, of course, was never realized,
however I still love to stop and enjoy darling shops and stands like Buds.

Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters is a darling cafe with the most perfect pineapple wallpaper…
which I am seriously coveting and might soon make an appearance in my home.

This was my first time in Napa and I was not disappointed.  I have wanted to go there for some time so I was very excited to spend a few days exploring this beautiful valley and
biking the amazing rolling hills and vineyards …
especially since my cousin has her own darling little vineyard there.
I had heard Whetstone Winery & Vineyard was a must, so we stopped there and I feel in love with the beautiful french looking chateaux where they have a lovely tasting room
and I have to say, the most addicting olive oil & rosemary almonds.
Don't leave there without purchasing oodles of bags of these.
Just thinking about them makes me want to order more.  Yes, they are that good!

Mumm is a larger winery, but still very worth the visit.
They have beautiful grounds and views, and a darling patio & shop.
I honestly couldn't stop photographing the beautiful grapes and vineyards!

here are a few other Vineyards that we stopped at:

Buena Vista Winery
Cline Cellars

I'm not sure if all the restaurants there are equally amazing but somehow we lucked out with
the most unforgettable meals! Here are a few musts in Napa Valley:

the best of the best beach reads

The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand //  The Bungalow by Sarah Jio
The Hurricane Sisters by Dorothea Benton Frank //  Wedding Night by Sopie Kinsella
Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple //  The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty  //  Nantucket Sisters by Nancy Thayer

THE BEST OF THE BEST IN SUMMER BEACH READS!

Here are a few of my favorite Beach Reads from last summer.
There are so many of you hitting the beach or traveling right now,
that I thought I'd share with you a few of my faves.
I admit, I'm an Audible.com addict right now… there is no other way I can squeeze
in as many reads as I'd like to without listening to my novels on Audible.
At the stage my kids are at right now,
there is just no time for me to sit for more than 5 minutes at a time.
Thank-goodness for Audible.com! I can listen to these great reads while
cleaning, driving, or even while at the pool or beach
without taking my eyes off my little ones.

I always need my Charleston or Nantucket fix.

Every summer I look forward to reading the new novels of my favorite two authors
that set the plots of their novels in two of my favorite locations.
Dorothea Benton Frank always writes about the magical South Carolina Lowcountry,
and Elin Hilderbrand's novels are always set on the lovely and charming
New England island of Nantucket.

Make room in your beach bag for these fantastic novels and enjoy!

Nantucket + Cape Cod

Um... it has almost been a month since I've posted on my lil ol blog here.
Life kinda took over and I tried to soak up as much of summer as I could with my kiddos.

Luckily, I was able to sneak a 2 day get away to Cape Cod & Nantucket.
I felt it was way too quick. It was a tease. Like, here is a perfect place with amazing beaches,
gorgeous beach homes, delicious restaurants, and a possibility of some serious relaxation...
here is what you could enjoy, aaannnddd bam! Now-go-home.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my nibble of the perfect vacation.
I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. I'm 100% grateful for it...
I just can't wait for more.
If some of you think I'm being a little dramatic, you're right, I am.
I adore Nantucket and can't wait to get back there.
Here are a few photos of my trip...

love the old Colonial town with cobblestone + brick streets

Siasconset Beach

here is just a taste of the amazing Nantucket homes.
I was ooohing and ahhhing all-the-day-long.

Sesachacha Pond

and what is a trip to Nantucket without a lovely book from Elin Hilderbrand?
Elin is Nantucket resident who is author to many lovely beach books that take place in Nantucket.
My adoration for Nantucket is definitely fueled by her books.
Seriously. I've read all of them.  My favorites are Silver Girl and Island.

Loved this restaurant CRU located right on the harbor of Nantucket.
How fittingly stylish is the decor!? Love the stripped pillows that are belted to the back cushions.

 Nantucket Harbor

harbor in Hyannis, Massachusettes (Cape Cod). Loved this Bluewater grille!

view of the Kennedy compound from the beach.

we could not go in the ocean because there were sharks in the area, due to the many seals.
We did see many of the seals though, and it was fun to see them out eating and playing in the ocean.
